An ostrich laying season is March - October, and hens lay one egg every other day. Once the eggs are collected from the pen, they are placed on a roller tray and rotated for a few days, and then placed into the incubator for 40 days. They are then moved to the hatcher for 2 days. Chicks are approximately 3 lbs once hatched, and will grow to full maturity in 14 months. The birds eat all natural specially blended feed that is grown right here on our farm. They have spacious pens and fields to run in and remain healthy, which is important in passing on quality meat to you! The unfertilized eggs are drained, cleaned and sold to art companies around the United States. The hides are also processed and sold to buyers in the south, and turned into beautiful purses and boots. The ostrich is a pretty amazing creature!
